What it is

A space for the relationship to be heard.

Relationship counselling is not about choosing sides or deciding who is right. It is about creating a calm, neutral room where both of you can speak honestly, listen fully, and understand the patterns that keep you stuck.

At Petals & Soul, the work is slow, respectful, and trauma-informed. We make room for the difficult conversations — about trust, intimacy, communication, conflict, and the unspoken hurts — while keeping the connection between you at the centre.

The process

What to expect in relationship sessions

Each 50-minute session is designed to help you feel safe enough to be honest, and supported enough to stay open.

01

A warm first meeting

We begin by getting to know your relationship — its history, strengths, and the places that feel tender. No pressure, no performance; just a gentle assessment of where you are and what you hope for.

02

Clarifying the patterns

Together we notice the cycle that keeps repeating. We slow it down, name it with compassion, and begin to understand what each of you is really trying to say beneath the conflict.

03

New conversations, new choices

With care and guidance, we practise new ways of speaking, listening, and responding. Small shifts build into safer, more honest connection — one conversation at a time.

Why couples come

What relationship counselling can help with

You do not need to be in crisis to come. Many couples arrive because they want to feel close again, communicate better, or prepare for a new chapter.

  • Speak honestly without the conversation escalating
  • Understand the cycle beneath recurring conflict
  • Rebuild trust and emotional safety after hurt
  • Clarify needs, boundaries, and shared values
  • Repair intimacy and feel like a team again
  • Navigate life changes, loss, or family stress together
How we meet

Choose the setting that feels safest

Relationship sessions are available onsite in Johannesburg, online by secure video, or over WhatsApp voice/video call — whichever helps both of you show up most fully.

Questions

Common questions

Do we have to attend together?+

Relationship counselling is most often attended by both partners. However, if one of you is hesitant to start, we can begin with an individual session and gently invite the other in when ready.

Can we attend online if we live outside Johannesburg?+

Yes. Online sessions are available across South Africa and internationally, using secure, encrypted video or WhatsApp voice/video calls.

How long does relationship counselling take?+

Some couples find relief after a few sessions; others prefer longer-term support. We move at the pace that feels right for your relationship, with regular check-ins on your goals.

What if we are not sure we want to stay together?+

That uncertainty is welcome here. Counselling can help you reach clarity with care, whether that leads to repair, separation, or a deeper understanding of what you both need.
